Carving Pumpkins

Corn Maze Field Trip

So, yesterday was Rebecca's first field trip in Fourth Grade. She had a ball, but she froze (as did I)! They went through the corn maze finding 6 different stations where they would "punch" a card. If they got all 6 they got a prize. This went on for about 2 and a half hours of running through an almost 5 mile corn maze. They all had a great time.

Next we ate our lunches and then they did a "gem dig". She loved getting little souvenir rocks to take home. After that was a "hay ride" of sorts to a pumpkin patch where each child got to choose a pumpkin. They were allowed to pick these HUGE pumpkins (earlier in the season I hear the children were only permitted to take little ones). So Mom had to lug around this huge pumpkin.

I was at work this morning and noticed my arms were a bit sore, and then it hit me! It's from carrying that pumpkin all over the field until she found just the right one. I will be sure to let her know when I get home that I'm sore from all her indecision ;)
From Yahoo News:

Joaquin Phoenix, who turned 34 years old just yesterday, stunned a reporter, Jason Kennedy, with the announcement that he would be retiring from acting.

NOOOO....say it ain't so!

Here he is saying, and unfortunately I quote:
"This will be my last performance as an actor. I'm not doing films anymore... I've been through that. I've done it... I'm dead serious."

Mrs. Sumosky attended the Oil City schools.

She worked for many years in the cafeteria at Pinegrove School and retired from there.
She loved cooking and baking and was well known for always having something coming from the oven until her vision no longer allowed her that pleasure.

Helen’s biggest joy was her family and friends and nothing made her happier than a visit from her children and grandchildren. She loved music and playing cards with family and friends and especially enjoyed her Tuesday Card Club.

Mrs. Sumosky was a member of St. Venantius Church.

She was married April 18, 1937, to Edward A. Sumosky, who preceded her in death May 9, 1996.

Helen and Ed resided for most of their lives in the home they built at Kahle’s Corners, Fryburg Road, and loved the Perret’s Flats neighborhood.

Surviving are five children, Nancy Scierka and husband, Andy, of Rush City, Minn., Edward Sumosky and wife, Barbara, of Edinboro, Daniel Sumosky and wife, Sharon, of Franklin, Sally Albright and husband, Jeff, of Oil City, and Patty Huber and husband, Bill, of Rouseville.

Survivors also include 21 grandchildren, Kathy Hermansen, Barbara Scierka, Mary Jane Scierka, Michael Scierka, Andy Scierka, Elizabeth Wellman, Edward Sumosky, Steve Sumosky, Jenny Hull, Tina Zaczyk, Mathew Sumosky, Tracy Sheehan, Beth Campbell, Joel Balot, Jessica Balot, Anna Harry, Elizabeth Huber, Preston Huber, William Huber, Patrick Huber and Jonathon Huber.

Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren and two on the way; two sisters-in-law, Ceil Jones of Whippany, N.J., and Betty Fox of Oil City; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Among the survivors are also special friends and neighbors, Jennifer Pardee, Kay Thompson, Phyllis Richardson, Shirley Dalton and Vi Shumaker.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Isaac Fox, Carl Fox, Fred Fox, Lloyd Fox and Paul Fox; and two sisters, Suzie Fox Fischer Martin and Marion Fox Porter.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum St., Oil City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Venantius Church.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Venango VNA Foundation, 431 Allegheny Blvd, Franklin, 16323.

Is fall coming?

Well, I have consulted with the Weather Channel and they are showing that after today we will be in the upper 70's for the rest of the week. Yippie! This 90 degree weather is getting old. I am ready for some fall atmosphere and fun fall things to do. We are planning a trip to the zoo (waiting until its cooler so the animals are out), I'd like to go to Tweetsie Railroad, and a corn maze with the girls. Jim and I like to attend haunted houses also. So as you can see, I am ready for me some fall weather ;)

Blob 'o meat...redefined!

You have no idea what an accomplishment this is for me! I CAN make a meatloaf that keeps it shape....and tastes good to boot. So, on this momentous occasion, I have photographed (i.e. documented for all mankind) my most prized meatloaf to date. [Also, for any of you that don't know...I have had prior meatloafs that come out of the oven looking just like "a blob of meat"--hence the loving term "blob 'o meat" above ;)]

Triad Baptist Academy 2008-2009

The look on her face says it all. (She has had this attitude all week....definite mixed emotions.)
Becca's the old pro, don't ya know. Fourth Grade...so old.

After 3 1/2 weeks.....

Well, I am getting used to working, but that doesn't mean that I like it. It is not the real estate that I am comfortable with and used to. Oh well, I don't have much of a choice, suck it up!

The girls are adjusting well to being at "school" again. I really will feel much better once real school starts. Then I won't feel the guilt, because they would have to be there anyway.

This weekend we are going to Jim's nephew's house in Newport News, VA. I have never been there, so I am looking forward to seeing some beaches there :).

I will be uploading some camping pictures soon. The girls had a blast and we are planning a trip again next weekend. We are taking Becca's friend with us again because she had so much fun. She wouldn't schedule anything else in her busy adolescent schedule for that weekend (seriously!).

Till I blog later..........

So, about this job thing....

I have worked for two weeks now, and it is at times boring and brainless work. (I am actually here right now, and have nothing to do at the moment.) I have to keep in mind though that I have a job. I was formerly at home whining about the fact that I didn't have a job, and now I am doing the opposite. The hardest part is putting the girls in "summer camp" and not being home with them. They are both doing well, and had a really good week last week. I hope that this week will be good as well. (Last week was a fun week for everyone--Vacation Bible School as well as camp.) Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well for my girls, they are what matter most!

Ok, I'm going back to work

Well, I got a job. I'm nervous about it, but here goes nothing. I start on Monday working for the firm that I worked for before I had Rebecca. I will not be doing real estate though, which worries me, because that is what I feel most comfortable with. Now I will be doing litigation work (which I know nothing about...eek). Wish me luck!

Face (or arm) painting.

Petting zoo.

Pony rides!

We get to ride on a fire truck!
I don't think I want to ride on top of that fire truck (she didn't...she rode in the front).

Becca on top of the fire truck (in the hat to the right.)
